Hi Andrew,

2.06 is a great new update, I like the texture preview very much.

Unfortunately I keep getting distortions with texture fill.

Whether I use UV or cube mapping, any suggestions as to why?

The object and UV map were both done in LW and I don't get this distortion with textures there.

Thanks

Andy

Please show how UV-map looks. But I think that you can get the required result by increasing the mesh resolution (Commands -> Change texture and mesh resolution) up to at least 4M polygons (now you have 0.4 M) and texture resolution up to 2k x 2k. The preview looks better because preview quality is like a mesh and texture resolution are unlimited.

Hi Andrew,

I've increased the number of polygons to 4m and the texture size but I'm still getting distortion.

Although the UV map uses subpatch interpolation, I have tried it without and I get similar results.

While I get a different result using cubic mapping, it still shows distortion.

This is a very simple object and I wonder how more complex objects could be textured without even worse distortion?

Many thanks

Andy

Now I see what is the problem. During the import the mesh is smoothed, but uv-set is not smoothed. So the distortion arises. I will add an option "Smooth uv-set" in loading menu and it will solve the problem.. I wil do that in few days. But now you can try to import with "Keep positions" option. In this case mesh will be smoothed but the vertices positions will not be changed.

Please, add an option to smooth or not the Uv islands borders, or not.
Many renderers don't smooth uv borders, but renderman does

Well Andrew what can I say, it works fantastically, that is just the job for texturing from LW :D

Thanks very much, if I run into any bugs with it I'll let you know.

Many thanks

Andy
